Addressing the state in his Mann ki Baat speech on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dwelt at length in an initiative under the mantle of the Swachh Bharat strategy to turn creature and other waste to riches. Coining the term, Waste to Wealth, Waste to Energy, ” the Prime Minister stated the initiative, also called Gobardhan (literally, riches from cowdung) was primarily targeted in the rural sector. Modi said that a three thousand tonnes of kitchen and animal waster were already converted to power under this scheme, and added that there had been several advantages arising out of the initiative. These comprised power distribution to rural houses, cleaner villages, and higher earnings for the farmer. In this relationship, he talked about a unique garbage collection drive undertaken by towns in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district. The step encouraged innovative ideas on waste control and recycling, and educating the masses through the use of song and poetry. Modi informed the nation that he had read an article around three villages in the Elephanta island away Mumbai, which have been electrified 70 years following independence.
